Grassroots peacebuilding approaches revolve around the local communities and citizens who reside in war-torn regions. They are key components of the ‘bottom-up’ peacebuilding theory formulated in part by Lederach and their importance in post-conflict peacebuilding situations has been increasingly recognised after internationally dominated operations have failed to establish lasting peace in such circumstances .
